About
Building scientific platforms at the intersection of research, engineering and leadership.
I am a scientific software engineer, technology manager and doctoral researcher with more than 15 years of experience designing and leading complex software systems for the European Space Agency.
My career combines scientific research, software engineering and technical leadership. I currently serve as Work Area Manager for astronomy and heliophysics downlink services at ESA/ESAC and as Deputy Service Manager for Serco’s ESA Frame Contract, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and ensuring the delivery of mission-critical systems across multiple space missions.
Over the years, I have contributed to a broad range of scientific and operational initiatives, spanning software architecture, quality assurance, data processing and service governance. My work has supported missions including Gaia, Euclid, PLATO, Ariel, SMILE, Solar Orbiter, XMM-Newton, BepiColombo, ExoMars and JUICE.
I am the founder and former technical coordinator of ESASky, ESA’s flagship science discovery portal, which enables researchers and the public to explore data from multiple space astronomy missions through an intuitive browser-based interface.
My current flagship initiative is AstroBrowser, a next-generation platform for scientific data exploration. Built on WebGL, HiPS and open standards, AstroBrowser aims to provide advanced interactive tools for astronomical and Earth Observation datasets, bridging visualisation, analysis and artificial intelligence.
In parallel, I am completing a PhD in Astrophysics at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, focusing on the scientific usability of the Hierarchical Progressive Surveys (HiPS) format. My research has led to peer-reviewed publications in Astronomy & Astrophysics and other journals.
My long-term vision is to build innovative platforms that combine scientific visualisation, geospatial technologies and AI to unlock new ways of exploring and understanding complex data.
