Impact

Designed to bridge astronomy and Earth Observation through a shared interactive visualisation environment.

Core rendering engine

AstroViewer

View page

A high-performance WebGL engine for scientific visualisation on the celestial sphere.

AstroViewer is the graphics core behind AstroBrowser. It focuses on rendering tiled astronomical datasets, catalogue overlays, footprints and interactive visual layers with performance and extensibility in mind.

Technologies

WebGL2TypeScriptShaders3D Visualisation

Impact

Provides the technical foundation for scalable browser-based exploration of scientific sky maps.

Research and automation pipeline

Fermi HiPS Pipeline

An automated pipeline for generating and updating Fermi LAT HiPS maps from weekly scientific data products.

The pipeline processes Fermi LAT weekly data products, generates HEALPix maps and converts them into HiPS datasets suitable for visualisation and scientific analysis.

Technologies

PythonDockerFermi Science ToolsHEALPixHiPS

Impact

Enables regularly updated gamma-ray sky maps for interactive analysis through HiPS-compatible platforms.

Experimental research prototype

Mesh HiPS

A prototype exploring the extension of HiPS-based visualisation into interactive mesh-based environments.

This work investigates how hierarchical sky maps and scientific overlays can be represented through mesh structures, opening possibilities for immersive analysis and advanced visual exploration.

Technologies
